Aerated concrete blocks generally weigh 500-700 kg/m3, which is only 1/4-1/3 of clay bricks and lime sand bricks, and 1/5 of ordinary concrete. It is a lighter type of concrete and is suitable for filling walls of high-rise buildings and load-bearing walls of low-rise buildings. Using this material can reduce the self-weight of the entire building by more than 40% compared to the self-weight of ordinary brick-concrete structures. Because the self-weight of the building is reduced and the destructive power of the earthquake is small, the earthquake resistance of the building is greatly improved.
Aerated concrete blocks
Thermal insulation
The thermal conductivity of aerated concrete is generally 0.11-0.18W/m·K, which is only 1/4-1/5 of that of granular soil bricks and lime sand bricks (the thermal conductivity of granular soil bricks is 0.4-0.58W/m·K; the thermal conductivity of lime sand bricks is 0.528W/m·K), and about 1/6 of that of ordinary concrete. Practice has proved that the thermal insulation effect of a 20 cm thick aerated concrete wall is equivalent to that of a 49 cm thick clay brick wall, and the thermal insulation performance is also much better than that of a 24 cm brick wall. This greatly reduces the thickness of the wall, and correspondingly expands the effective use area of the building, saves the thickness of building materials, improves construction efficiency, reduces project costs, and reduces the weight of the building.
High strength
According to experiments, the compressive strength of aerated concrete blocks is greater than 25 kg/cm2, which is equivalent to the compressive strength of No. 125 clay bricks and lime sand bricks.
Earthquake resistance
In the 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Fengnan, Tangshan, according to post-earthquake investigations, only a few new cracks appeared in the aerated concrete building, while the brick-concrete structure building almost collapsed, making the two buildings, which were not far apart and had the same structure but different materials, a sharp contrast. Analysis shows that this is because aerated concrete has a light specific gravity, good overall performance, and small inertia during earthquakes, so it has a certain earthquake resistance. This will be of great benefit to our country with many earthquakes.
